31 Rescued Monkeys Begin New Life After Years of Cruelty

In a heartening rescue mission, 31 long-tailed macaque monkeys were saved from a life of abuse at a training facility in Indonesia, where they had endured harsh conditions as “dancing monkeys.” Rescuers from the Jakarta Animal Aid Network (JAAN), supported by World Animal Protection, freed the monkeys from small cages, heavy chains, and grueling training routines meant to force them into performing for tourists. These monkeys, once confined to dark, cramped spaces, are now on a path to rehabilitation, where they can reconnect with nature and other primates. The dedicated JAAN team is working to ensure they heal and eventually return to the wild, where they can experience the freedom they deserve. This rescue marks a hopeful new chapter for the macaques, highlighting the impact of compassionate intervention and the promise of a better life.
