Baby Capybara Tupi Captures Hearts in 2024’s Final Viral Moment

A baby capybara named Tupi, born on Dec. 3 at the San Antonio Zoo, has become a viral sensation and the zoo’s first capybara birth in 25 years. Tupi, whose name is pronounced “two-pee,” has quickly captured the internet’s attention with his adorable antics and charming personality. The zoo celebrated his arrival with photos and videos of Tupi bonding with his mother, Luna, and exploring his habitat.

Tupi’s rise to fame adds to a year of viral baby animals, but his story took an unexpected twist when a cryptocurrency named $TUPI surfaced shortly after his birth announcement. The zoo swiftly clarified it had no connection to the crypto coin, urging fans to focus on the joy of Tupi’s arrival.

Despite the brief crypto controversy, Tupi’s popularity has only grown. The San Antonio Zoo has shared videos of the three-week-old capybara’s playful moments, including climbing into a food bowl and sticking close to Luna and his aunt Ginny. Soon, Tupi is expected to explore more independently, including swimming, a beloved activity for the species.

With his mantra of being “unbothered, moisturized, and flourishing,” Tupi has become a symbol of calm and joy to close out the year. Visitors are encouraged to see him in person at the zoo, where this laid-back baby capybara is thriving and spreading smiles.
