Teen’s 3D Printed Whistles Just Earned Him A National Award

Luke from South Shields turned his love of mountain hiking into a mission that would change lives. The 14 year old bought a 3D printer with his own money and began creating safety whistles to sell, raising over $2,000 for Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue Team. He also completed half marathons twice to raise even more funds for Langdale and Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team in memory of a neighbor’s son.

His selfless dedication caught national attention, and Luke was recently honored with the British Citizen Youth Award at the Palace of Westminster. Despite the incredible recognition, Luke remains humble and focused on making an even bigger difference. His father Sean, a volunteer ranger and winter mountain leader, describes his son as shy but deeply passionate about helping the rescue teams who risk their lives for others. Luke continues to use every penny of his pocket money to produce more whistles, hoping to find a sponsor so he can scale up his life saving efforts.
