A Free Lawn Care Movement Is Growing, One Yard at a Time

What began as one man with a mower and a desire to do good has blossomed into a growing nonprofit transforming neighborhoods across New Jersey and beyond. Founded by Brian Schwartz, I Want to Mow Your Lawn is a grassroots initiative that offers free lawn care to seniors, veterans, and those with disabilities who need a little extra help.

Launched in 2020 after Brian lost his job and became a new father, the project started with one yard and a simple goal: to bring a little relief and kindness to those who need it most. Since then, it has grown into a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with volunteers mowing lawns in multiple states, including New York, Illinois, and Texas. The organization matches volunteers with nearby homeowners, some of whom provide the tools themselves. Whether someone pitches in once or becomes a regular, every hour of service is logged and recognized. It’s a model built on compassion, simplicity, and the belief that a freshly mowed lawn can lift more than just overgrown grass.
