A Rare Catch and an Even Rarer Rescue

Visitors at a Rhode Island aquarium got a shimmering surprise this week: a golden lobster so rare, scientists say she’s one in 30 million. Nearly mistaken for dinner, the unique crustacean was rescued just in time from a local restaurant kitchen.

Thanks to quick action from a bartender with aquarium ties, the rare beauty was rushed to the Biomes Marine Biology Center, where curious kids now crowd around her tank in awe. Her striking hue has even outshined the blue lobsters already on display, sparking wonder and disbelief from guests who often think she’s a completely different species. Donated by a restaurant in Charlestown, the timing of her arrival couldn’t have been more perfect. The next morning, a group of fourth-graders were first in line to meet the dazzling new resident. Though she was nearly lost to a boiling pot, she’s now the unexpected star of an educational exhibit. For the golden girl of the sea, it’s a second chance that’s nothing short of magic.
