Cardi B And Mamdani Is Launching A Free Childcare Program, With A Jingle Contest To Match

Only in New York. Cardi B has teamed up with New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani to help launch the city’s new free childcare program for 2 year olds, and their collab is exactly as fun and wholesome as it sounds. In a reel posted to the NYC Mayor’s Instagram, the Grammy-winning Bronx native and mother of four sat down with the 34 year old mayor to talk childcare, crack jokes, and announce a city wide jingle contest inviting New Yorkers to submit original 15 or 30 second songs promoting the program. Cardi will serve as judge, while the mayor “is the one with the funds.” Fans went wild in the comments, with one writing, “Two baddies helping change the world,” and another saying, “Tearing up watching this because that’s exactly where I want my taxes to go.”

The program, called 2-K, will launch this fall offering 2,000 free childcare seats for 2 year olds across neighborhoods including the Bronx, Washington Heights, Southeast Queens, and Canarsie, with enrollment opening June 2 through June 26. Eligibility extends regardless of income or immigration status, removing one of the biggest barriers working families face in one of the world’s most expensive cities. Cardi, who has spoken openly about the challenges of balancing a career with raising young children, said it best: “Sometimes us women, we can’t really go forward because we don’t have nobody to help us take care of our kids.” New Yorkers have until April 17 to submit their jingles via the city’s website. The winning song becomes the official sound of 2-K across New York City.
