Dog Detective’s Nose Stops Illicit Vape Ring

An eight-year-old cocker spaniel named Mostyn proved that crime doesn’t pay when he sniffed out hundreds of illegal vapes, cigarettes, and tobacco pouches at a Leighton Buzzard market. Called in by Central Bedfordshire Council after reports of illicit sales to minors, Mostyn and his handler uncovered 451 vapes, 758 cigarette packs, and 175 tobacco pouches hidden throughout L&B Market. The discovery led to a three-month closure order granted by Luton Magistrates’ Court, sending a clear message that underage and illicit sales won’t be tolerated.

Mostyn’s keen nose capped off another successful operation for Specialist K9’s Limited, delighting local residents and schools relieved to see safer streets. Councillor John Baker praised the dog’s “invaluable work” in protecting young people, noting that “businesses putting children at risk have no place here.” The council also reminded the public that anonymous tips about illegal sales can help keep the community safe. With Mostyn on patrol, the neighborhood can breathe a little easier—no vape or tobacco stash is safe when this pooch is on duty.
