Everest Legend Sets Sights on New Record-Breaking Heights

One of the world’s most accomplished mountain guides is heading back to Everest—this time to break his own record. Kami Rita, a 55-year-old Sherpa from Nepal, is preparing for what could be his 31st—and possibly 32nd—successful climb to the top of the world’s highest peak.

Having already reached Everest’s 29,032-foot summit 30 times, Rita holds the world record for the most ascents. This spring, he’ll once again lead climbers up the mountain, drawing on a lifetime of experience. With a legacy passed down from his father, one of the first Sherpa guides, Rita continues to inspire adventurers worldwide.

The spring season is Everest’s most active, and Nepal’s Department of Tourism has already issued over 200 permits for climbs from the southern route. Rita’s remarkable journey not only highlights human endurance and determination but also honors the Sherpa community’s essential role in mountaineering success. As he sets out once again, the world watches with admiration for a man who keeps reaching new heights—literally.
