Family’s Christmas Tree Farm Grows Hope for Grandchildren’s Education

In the heart of rural Indiana, Shawn and Bruce Carpenter have transformed their 10-acre property into a festive Christmas tree farm with a meaningful mission: funding their eight grandchildren’s college education. A decade ago, the couple planted 5,000 tiny fir and pine saplings, anticipating that by the time the trees matured, their grandchildren would be ready to embark on their academic journeys.

Today, Bittersweet Farms boasts about 1,000 beautiful trees, now ready for families to cut down and carry home for the holidays. Selling at a competitive price of $10 per foot, the Carpenters aim to make college a little more attainable for the next generation. Customers can choose to saw their tree themselves or receive help from the couple, who are thrilled to welcome the community to their farm.

The Carpenters’ initiative is as much about giving back as it is about celebrating the season. Each tree sold represents a step closer to achieving their goal of supporting their grandchildren’s education while spreading holiday cheer. Their story highlights the power of love, foresight, and the joy of family traditions.
