Fast-Fashion Giant Takes a Big Step for Animals

Fast-fashion retailer Shein has announced a sweeping ban on the sale of fur and exotic animal skins across its entire platform, including products from third-party sellers. The move expands on its existing no-fur policy for in-house brands and brings the entire Shein Marketplace in line with animal welfare standards promoted by advocates.

The update follows a meeting with PETA, who flagged several listings in 2024 that violated Shein’s previous policies. After being presented with detailed information about the fur and exotic skin trade, Shein opted for a complete ban, covering products made from animals like alligators, snakes, and ostriches. The company now joins a growing list of major brands—such as Chanel, Burberry, and Asos—that have removed such materials from their collections. This shift marks another step forward for cruelty-free fashion, with one of the world’s most influential retailers sending a clear message: compassion is in style.
