Firefighters Reunite with Baby They Saved in a Miraculous Roadside Birth

A group of California firefighters experienced a heartwarming reunion with baby Daleyza, whose life they helped save during an emergency roadside birth. Jazmin Quijano, only 22 weeks pregnant, went into premature labor while en route to UC Davis Children’s Hospital. Forced to deliver on the side of Highway 99, Quijano’s baby was born unresponsive, sparking a desperate effort to save her life.

Sacramento firefighters arrived just minutes after the delivery and immediately began CPR on the tiny newborn, who had no pulse. Their quick action and dedication continued all the way to the hospital, where Daleyza received life-saving care. After 145 days in the neonatal intensive care unit, she defied the odds and was discharged in November.

The reunion at Fire Station 6 was an emotional celebration of perseverance and teamwork. “Those firefighters will always be her first family,” said Quijano, who expressed immense gratitude for their heroic efforts. Holding the now-thriving baby, firefighter Jeffery Switkowski called the moment “super special,” a testament to the resilience of both mother and child.
