Former Student’s $1.8 Million Gift Leaves Lasting Legacy for Wisconsin High School

Osceola High School in Wisconsin received an unbelievable surprise from an alumna they barely knew—until now. Millicent “Milly” Lindahl, a graduate of the Class of 1947, left her former school an astonishing $1.8 million estate gift, with more funds expected to follow.

Superintendent Becky Styles admitted the school was stunned by the unexpected donation. Little was known about Milly, who later became Milly Chapman, but records show she was an active student—participating in drama, the yearbook committee, the school newspaper, and cheerleading. Milly chose to leave her fortune to the place that brought her the most joy.

Now, the school is carefully considering how to honor her generosity. Ideas include creating student spaces or a performance center in her name, ensuring her legacy supports generations of students to come. Before making final decisions, the school will seek community input and wait for the estate to be fully settled.

Though Milly lived a quiet life, her extraordinary gift will forever be remembered in Osceola, ensuring that the high school she cherished continues to shape young lives for years to come.
