Happy Star Wars Day! The Galaxy Far Far Away Is More Popular Than Ever

May the 4th be with you. Today is Star Wars Day, and Nielsen just dropped the numbers to prove that nearly 50 years after the first film hit theaters, the galaxy far, far away has never had a bigger audience. According to fresh data released this morning, U.S. viewers streamed a staggering 33 billion minutes — that’s 550 million hours — of Star Wars content across linear TV and streaming in 2025 alone. The films led the way, accounting for 44.2% of all viewing, with A New Hope the single most-watched title of the year, followed by The Phantom Menace and Rogue One. Live-action series made up another 38.9%, with Andor — supercharged by its long-awaited second season dropping in April and May 2025 — racking up 7.4 billion minutes all by itself and landing in Nielsen’s Top 10 Streaming Originals for six consecutive weeks. The Mandalorian and Skeleton Crew rounded out the top three shows.

On Star Wars Day itself last year, fans collectively watched 637 million minutes — over 10.6 million hours — of Star Wars content in a single day. And the franchise spans generations in the most literal sense: Nielsen data from early 2026 shows The Mandalorian is the favorite among both Gen Alpha kids and Baby Boomers, while Gen Z has claimed The Clone Wars animated series as their own, and Millennials and Gen X are all about Andor. Whether you’re a first-timer discovering the original trilogy or a die-hard rewatching Andor for the third time this year, today is your day. A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away — and somehow still going stronger than ever.
