How One Man’s Fight For His Wife Became Hope For Thousands

A groundbreaking AI app developed at Research Triangle Park is helping thousands of Americans successfully challenge healthcare claim denials with an impressive 70% success rate. Neal Shah and healthcare expert Riyaa Jadhav created Counterforce Health after Shah experienced the frustration of fighting insurance companies while his wife battled cancer. Their free platform uses the same AI technology that insurance companies employ to deny claims, but turns it around to help patients create robust, medically-based appeals.

The app works by analyzing users’ insurance documents and denial letters to generate comprehensive appeals that can be printed and submitted directly to insurance companies. Counterforce Health employs nearly 200 people and has even taken their technology on the road to rural North Carolina communities with limited internet access. The company reports that successful appeals typically receive responses from insurance companies within just a few days. For Shah, who watched his wife recover and is now helping others navigate the healthcare system, the mission is clear: using technology to give patients the tools they need to get the coverage they deserve.
