India’s Greta Thunberg Just Grew a Forest at Age 12

Called the Indian Greta Thunberg, 12-year-old Prasiddhi Singh is leading an inspiring grassroots movement after planting over 150,000 trees across India. She kicked off her mission at age seven in response to a cyclone that ravaged her home state of Tamil Nadu and vowed to restore the forests she watched disappear. By age eight she won the Dal Puraskar for her early efforts, and she’s since guided thousands of volunteers to create 14 “fruit forests” in schools, offices and community spaces. Her magnetic presence and clear vision have made her a sought-after speaker at TEDx and UN climate summits.

Through her Prasiddhi Forest Foundation, she teaches a “3G Network” philosophy to Generate oxygen, Grow food and Gift efforts to local communities. Her work now spans mangrove reforestation, lake restoration and nationwide volunteer challenges that have energized India’s youth. She has led workshops in biodiversity and sustainability, proving that age is no barrier to real change. Prasiddhi’s story shows how one young voice can spark a forest of hope.
