Music Industry Unites for Mental Health Support After Grammy Speech

Chappell Roan’s powerful Grammy Awards speech calling for better wages and healthcare for artists has already sparked real change in the music industry. In response, Universal Music Group (UMG) has partnered with the Music Health Alliance (MHA) to launch the Music Industry Mental Health Fund, offering support to both current and former music professionals—even those not affiliated with UMG. The fund will provide mental health counseling, psychiatric support, and financial assistance for treatment costs, ensuring a more sustainable future for industry workers.

Roan’s advocacy also inspired a wave of donations to Backline, a nonprofit providing mental health resources to music professionals. After her $25,000 donation, artists like Charli XCX, Sabrina Carpenter, Lauv, and Noah Kahan matched the contribution, with Live Nation, AEG Global Touring, and the Wasserman Foundation following suit. Meanwhile, Ariana Grande added to the conversation, urging record labels and studios to include mental health resources in contracts for young performers. With artists and industry leaders rallying for change, these initiatives mark a crucial step toward prioritizing mental wellness in entertainment.
