New York’s Cat-Themed Walking Tours Are Purring With Success

Peggy Gavan, a historian and author with a passion for cats, has joined forces with Dan Rimada of Bodega Cats of New York to create the city’s first cat-themed walking tours, Cats About Town (CAT). These unique tours combine fascinating historical anecdotes about feline heroes with scenic routes through iconic neighborhoods like Brooklyn Heights and Manhattan’s Financial District.

Since their debut in 2023, the tours have been a hit, selling out regularly and delighting participants with stories like a cat saving Brooklyn Borough Hall from fire. With plans to expand into the Lower East Side and partnerships with local cat cafes, Gavan and Rimada aim to bring even more joy and history to New York’s cat enthusiasts. Tours will resume in spring, offering a unique way to explore the city and celebrate its feline connections.
