Nurses Transform Hospital Room Into Dream Wedding Venue

Harry Sweppenneiser lay in his hospital bed at Penn Presbyterian in Philadelphia when his son Allen shared incredible news, he was getting married and wanted his father to be part of the celebration. Nurse Manager Julie Seman and her team immediately sprang into action to make Harry’s dream of seeing his son marry come true, even though his condition was rapidly declining. The staff originally planned to livestream the ceremony, but when technical challenges made that impossible, they pivoted to an even more touching solution.

One nurse gave Harry a shave and haircut the day before the ceremony, another crafted a beautiful boutonniere, and the team found a special outfit for him to wear. Allen and his new wife were heading to New Jersey for their honeymoon and had to pass through Philadelphia, so they decided to stop and celebrate with his father at the hospital. The emotional moment meant everything to the Sweppenneiser family as Harry got to witness one of life’s biggest milestones for his son. Harry passed away shortly after the ceremony, but not before being part of a celebration that will stay with his family forever.
