Oakland Zoo’s Last Elephant to Join Old Friend at Sanctuary

In a heartwarming move aimed at animal welfare, Oakland Zoo’s last African elephant, Osh, aged 30, is set to be reunited with his old friend Donna at The Elephant Sanctuary in Hohenwald, Tennessee. This decision comes after Donna, the last female African elephant at the zoo, was relocated to the sanctuary in September 2023. The Elephant Sanctuary, accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, offers over 3,000 acres of natural habitat, providing elephants like Osh and Donna a chance to live out their lives in a more natural and enriching environment. This fall, Osh’s transfer will mark a significant step in ensuring the emotional and physical well-being of these majestic creatures, celebrating a reunion that underscores the importance of compassionate conservation practices.
