Off-Duty Fire Chief Saves Man from Burning Car on Way to Disney World

During a family vacation en route to Disney World, George Healy, a Deputy Chief with the New York City Fire Department and a 34-year veteran of the FDNY, performed a daring rescue on Belt Parkway in Brooklyn. On Monday, August 12, Healy noticed a vehicle accident that had caused a severe traffic jam and quickly realized one of the cars was on fire. Demonstrating quick thinking and bravery, he rushed to the burning vehicle and successfully rescued the trapped driver. This act of heroism, highlighted in an FDNY Facebook post, showcases the extraordinary commitment of fire service professionals, even while off-duty.
