Rescue on the Ridges: Hiker’s Close Call on Mount McLoughlin

A 40-year-old hiker from Central Point, Oregon, survived a perilous ordeal on Mount McLoughlin after losing his way post-summit, leading to a desperate situation without food or water amid freezing temperatures. Despite being poorly equipped with just a T-shirt and shorts, the hiker managed to send a crucial text for help to his girlfriend, who quickly contacted emergency services. Using cell phone forensics, search and rescue teams navigated challenging terrain, including dense foliage and large boulders, to locate him by 9:30 p.m. on Saturday. The successful rescue highlights the dangers of hiking unprepared and the swift response of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office to bring the hiker to safety.
