Maya Mor, an aspiring Georgetown University athlete from Minnetonka, Minnesota, has founded Girls Run Global, a nonprofit aimed at empowering young women through sports. During a gap year, she traveled to Morogoro, Tanzania, to work with 70 teenage girls at the SEGA Girls’ Secondary School, using athletics to teach life skills and boost their self-esteem, teamwork, and leadership abilities. Mor’s initiative provides not only training but also essential running gear, supported by partnerships, to help these girls from vulnerable backgrounds overcome their life challenges. With aspirations to expand her program across East Africa, Mor is dedicated to using sports as a vehicle for meaningful social change and personal growth among young women.
