Seamus the Miniature Donkey Brings Smiles and Comfort to Newfoundland

Seamus, a five-month-old miniature donkey, has quickly become a beloved part of Pound Cove, Newfoundland, with a future as a therapy animal. His owner, Dana Blackmore, is training him to be comfortable indoors, helping him adjust to doors, people, and other animals.

Blackmore hopes to launch a mental health and wellness program featuring Seamus and her other animals, including horses, a mule, and a dog. The donkey’s gentle nature and love for cuddles make him the perfect candidate for therapy work, particularly for those in long-term care.

For now, Seamus is enjoying his routine—snacking on carrots, rolling on the rug, and napping in the living room. Blackmore says the experience has been heartwarming and therapeutic for her as well. With plans to build a large barn and open a therapy center, Seamus is set to bring joy and comfort to many in the years ahead.
