Senior Pug Gets Second Chance At Life

Betsie, an elderly pug found abandoned in a cardboard box in a remote area of South Africa, has begun her incredible 620 mile journey to her forever home at Pug Rescue in Benoni. The sweet senior dog was discovered alone and vulnerable, sparking an outpouring of global support from people touched by her story who wanted to help give this old girl the happy ending she deserves. After spending a month with a devoted foster family who provided medical care, treats, and endless cuddles, Betsie is now traveling in style as the most precious cargo in Malcolm and Cheryl’s care.

The dedicated pair is driving Betsie across the country, making overnight stops to ensure their special passenger stays comfortable throughout the long trek to the sanctuary that will provide for all her needs. Pug Rescue South Africa, an animal welfare organization that has been rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming pugs regardless of age or health since 2008, will give Betsie a full veterinary checkup and a permanent loving home. Malcolm and Cheryl report that Betsie is an awesome little travel companion, proving that this resilient pug is ready to embrace her new life. The overwhelming generosity from supporters around the world made this life changing journey possible, transforming a heartbreaking beginning into a beautiful story of hope. From a lonely cardboard box to becoming someone’s treasured companion, Betsie’s journey reminds us that it’s never too late for a second chance at happiness.
