Gerard Donaghy from Northern Ireland had a wonderful idea to bring painters and decorators together to help a community building in need of a makeover. He put out a call on social media through his business Paintworks NI, asking for nominations for buildings that truly deserved support. The winning nomination was Helping Hands Autism Resource Centre in Dundonald, and Gerard knew immediately they could make a real difference there. As a father of a daughter with additional needs, the project felt especially meaningful to him.
Over fifty volunteer painters responded to Gerard’s call and came together for the “Paint It Forward” event to completely transform the family center. The dedicated volunteers donated their time, skills, and materials to create a brighter and more welcoming space for the children and families who visit the centre every day. Caroline from Helping Hands said the transformation has lifted the entire atmosphere and will help them truly reflect the care and inclusion they strive to provide. The amazing community effort proves that when people work together, they can create something truly special for those who need it most.
