Taylor Swift Just Made Music History Again

Taylor Swift has done it again, and this time she has officially joined some of the most legendary company in music history. Her sparkling new single Opalite just hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming her 14th career chart-topper and placing her in a tie with Rihanna for the third most number one hits in the entire history of the chart, sitting just behind the all-time greats Mariah Carey and The Beatles. The milestone is even more remarkable because Opalite is the second number one single from Swift’s current album, making it the very first time since her landmark 2014 record 1989 that she has scored two chart-toppers from a single project. Swift celebrated the news on social media with a gorgeous carousel of behind-the-scenes photos and studio videos, telling fans she was bouncing off the walls and might just go buy a giant pretzel at the mall to mark the occasion.

The journey to number one was a thrilling one for fans, fueled by a massive surge of physical single sales that ranked among the biggest sales weeks for any song in recent years. A dazzling retro-inspired music video, a collection of special remixes, and limited edition vinyl and CD singles all helped push Opalite to the very top after it had been hovering just outside the number one spot for several months. Swift co-wrote and co-produced the track alongside legendary hitmakers Max Martin and Shellback, the same celebrated duo behind some of the biggest pop songs of the past two decades. With 14 number one hits and absolutely no signs of slowing down, Taylor Swift is writing a chapter of music history that experts and fans everywhere agree may be impossible to ever match.
