Teens Bring Joy to Seniors Through GlamourGals Initiative

Founded in 2000 by high school junior Rachel Doyle, the GlamourGals Foundation has been fostering unique intergenerational connections for over two decades. The foundation, inspired by Doyle’s own inability to regularly visit her grandmother in a distant senior home, offers manicures, makeovers, and companionship to seniors to alleviate loneliness. Through GlamourGals, teens across the U.S. engage in meaningful volunteer work that includes beautifying and bonding with elderly residents in their local communities. This initiative not only combats the isolation felt by many seniors but also empowers teens to contribute positively in their communities, countering the often negative portrayal of youth in the media. Under Doyle’s leadership as CEO, the movement has expanded to involve 1,300 volunteers spanning 100 communities in 18 states. Rachel’s vision continues to inspire a legacy of empathy and service, showing that simple acts of kindness can bridge the gap between generations and create lasting impacts. This successful blend of beauty care and heartfelt interaction enriches the lives of both the volunteers and the seniors they visit.
