The Internet Is Obsessed With This Cat Who Ignores The Canada-US Border

On a quiet street in British Columbia, right where Canada meets the United States, lives a cat who has decided that international borders simply do not apply to him. His name is Louis Vuitton, and every single day he leaps across a narrow ditch that marks the official boundary between the two countries, wanders into a state park on the American side, greets whoever happens to be nearby, collects his belly rubs, and then hops back home to Canada as if none of it required a second thought. Border guards, surveillance cameras, and occasional helicopter patrols in the area have not slowed him down in the slightest. For Louis, the whole arrangement is just a particularly interesting ditch worth jumping on a daily basis.

His owner, Deb Tate, says Louis has always been extremely friendly and utterly unbothered by rules, but his cross-border adventures only became famous when a video of him casually hopping back and forth went massively viral on Instagram, racking up more than three million views and making him a genuine internet celebrity overnight. Neighbors on both sides of the border have grown genuinely fond of him, and locals say he makes a point of stopping to greet everyone he encounters regardless of which country they are standing in at the moment. He also has a well-documented habit of bringing home what his owner diplomatically calls treats from his American adventures, including snakes, mice and squirrels, none of which she confirms have ever been declared to customs. Louis will turn six years old on Canada Day, a birthday his owner considers perfectly fitting for a cat who has turned casual border-hopping into a beloved daily ritual. In a time when crossing that particular stretch has become considerably more complicated for humans, Louis remains cheerfully and completely unmoved by the whole situation.
