Father Sergio Gutierrez Benitez, known as Fray Tormenta, lived a life unlike any other. Once battling addiction and crime, he turned his life around to become a priest—and later, a masked wrestler—to fund an orphanage in Mexico. Inspired by a film about a wrestling priest, he secretly entered the lucha libre ring, enduring grueling training and fights while continuing his priestly duties. For 23 years, his masked identity helped raise enough money to support hundreds of children, often fighting through injuries to keep the orphanage running. Eventually, his secret was revealed when he was asked to officiate a wedding for one of his former opponents.
His efforts led to the creation of Fray Tormenta’s Puppies Children’s Home, which has since helped over 2,000 orphans find a better future. Many of the children he raised went on to become doctors, lawyers, priests, and even professional wrestlers. His incredible journey not only changed lives but also inspired the hit movie Nacho Libre, ensuring his legacy of compassion and resilience lives on.
