The Simple Idea That Became A Billion Dollar Movement

Forty years ago, three founders asked nonprofits a simple question: would you rather receive money or new products? The unanimous answer launched a movement that has since distributed over $3 billion worth of brand new clothing, toys, and home goods to families in need. Co founder Karen Bromley, who spent her early years in foster care, understood deeply that receiving something new could restore dignity and hope to children who had never experienced that feeling before.

The organization evolved dramatically in 2005 when industry leader Allan Ellinger watched Hurricane Katrina unfold on television and realized families needed immediate, tangible help beyond money. He picked up the phone, called colleagues in the fashion industry, and within days mobilized $6 million worth of brand new goods to the Gulf Coast in the first year alone. Today, Delivering Good partners with thousands of brands and retailers to funnel excess inventory away from landfills and directly into the hands of people facing poverty, disasters, and other life challenges. Their next goal is ambitious yet achievable: improving 50 million lives in the coming years by ensuring every excess product finds its way to someone who needs it, because sometimes a new coat or toy can say “you matter” in ways nothing else can.
