This Ten-Year-Old’s Mission Started Small and Grew Into Something Amazing

Sometimes the biggest hearts come in the smallest packages, and ten-year-old Kendelle Reed from Addison, New York, is proof that age has nothing to do with making a difference. When Kendelle set out to collect essentials like socks, t-shirts, and underwear for veterans at the local VA hospital, she had a modest goal of gathering 230 of each item. What started as one determined child’s mission quickly transformed into something much more extraordinary when her entire community caught wind of her efforts.

Kendelle didn’t just ask for donations—she rolled up her sleeves and got to work, organizing craft sales, baking for fundraisers, and even making handmade gnomes and candles to sell. Her infectious enthusiasm and genuine compassion inspired neighbors, local businesses, and families from surrounding areas to join her cause. By the time she was finished, Kendelle hadn’t just met her goal—she had far exceeded it, proving that when one person leads with kindness, an entire community can follow. The Addison Fire Department was so impressed they named her Citizen of the Year, and her hometown held a special celebration in her honor, complete with custom t-shirts featuring her handprint designed to look like the American flag.
