What 150 Strangers Discovered By Screaming Together In Austin

Every Sunday evening, something unexpected happens on Austin’s Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge as crowds gather not for a concert or celebration, but for something far more cathartic. Scream Club Austin invites locals to release their frustrations through collective screaming sessions that have drawn up to 150 people since launching in September. Founder Krystal Morris started the group after a particularly rough summer left her searching for a healthy outlet, discovering that sometimes we all need permission to let go of what we’ve been holding inside. The experience includes breathing exercises, tension release, and then thunderous screaming that ranges from long battle cries to guttural howls that echo across Lady Bird Lake.

But the magic goes beyond just the screaming itself. Participants have found that sharing this vulnerable moment with strangers creates unexpected bonds and genuine community connections. First-timer Gustavo Seixas, who came dealing with depression, left smiling and calling the experience fantastic after releasing everything he had been carrying. Whether people arrive feeling stressed, lonely, or simply needing to vent without judgment, they leave refreshed and often with new friendships, proving that sometimes the best therapy comes from doing something together that society usually tells us not to do.
