What Started as a Facebook Post Became a Holiday Miracle

Diana Freedman’s heart sank when she realized her grandmother’s precious necklace was no longer around her neck during her December travels. The nearly century-old family heirloom told the story of her grandparents’ American dream: a simple piece that her immigrant grandfather had transformed over the years, first mounting it on a heart and later adding a diamond as his fortunes grew. Her grandmother never took it off until she passed it to Diana over 20 years ago, and Diana had worn it constantly ever since, making its disappearance feel like losing a piece of her family’s history.

After security footage confirmed the necklace wasn’t on her when she left the airport, Diana knew it had likely been lost on her JetBlue flight, so she posted a desperate plea in her local “Long Island’s Amazing Moms” Facebook group. By incredible coincidence, one of those 28,000 group members happened to be Penny Neferis, a JetBlue executive who immediately sprang into action to track down the exact plane. The airline team launched a thorough search, with Stations Operator Tom Hungerman checking every single lost and found drawer at Palm Beach International Airport until he found the precious necklace. Just 48 hours after it disappeared, Diana was reunited with her family treasure, proving that sometimes holiday miracles really do happen when strangers care enough to help.
