What This Scottish Teenager Achieved Is A First For The Country

Sixteen-year-old Ally Chalmers from Glasgow has made history by becoming the first wheelchair user to take and pass their race license test in Scotland. Chalmers worked with Minimax Motorsport and Team BRIT to achieve this groundbreaking milestone, using specially adapted hand controls that allow competitive racing from a wheelchair. The achievement took place at Knockhill Circuit, where Chalmers joined over 20 other disabled drivers for a disability motorsport showcase event.

Team BRIT’s advanced hand control technology proved to be a game-changer for Chalmers, who described the equipment as essential for competitive racing. The young driver has already set ambitious goals, hoping to continue training and work toward a full season of racing with Minimax Motorsport’s support. Chalmers’ success is inspiring a new generation of disabled drivers in Scotland, proving that with the right technology and determination, racing dreams can become reality. As Chalmers puts it, this achievement has given him “something to fill my need for a high-paced, competitive sport.”
