Woman Survives Harrowing Fall at Washington Waterfall

A 25-year-old woman endured a perilous 150-foot fall at Racehorse Falls in Deming, Washington, leading to a complex and successful high-angle rescue operation by Whatcom County Fire District 14. The incident, which occurred on September 10, saw the woman initially fall 50-60 feet before tumbling an additional 100 feet down a rocky slope. Firefighters expertly rappelled to her location, securing her in a litter, and then painstakingly transported her via a wheeled litter over a third of a mile trail to safety. The rescue team’s dedication and swift action led to her stabilization and subsequent hospitalization in Seattle, marking the most severe of several rescues at the falls this year and highlighting the risks of natural scenic spots.
