Young Chef Gives Back After Life-Saving Procedure

At just 9 years old, Prince Wise is using his love of food to make a difference. After receiving a heart transplant at age 7, Prince partnered with Make-A-Wish Greater Pennsylvania and West Virginia to create a special dish to raise funds for the organization. With a refined palate and a passion for cooking, he worked alongside executive chef Fernando Canales at Floor 2 restaurant in Pittsburgh to develop a crabcake sandwich with avocado and tartar sauce, served with crispy fries. The dish donates 10% of its profits to Make-A-Wish.

Prince’s journey began in 2021 when he was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy and required a heart transplant. After a successful surgery and recovery, his love for food never faded, and he now enjoys cooking with his mother, despite lingering challenges from his condition. His experience in the restaurant kitchen was a dream come true, as he confidently chose ingredients and helped craft a restaurant-quality dish. With his apron, chef’s hat, and new cooking tools gifted by the restaurant, Prince is already looking forward to his next culinary adventure.
