A Cat Disappeared In 2022 And Was Just Found Exactly Two Streets From Home

A 10-year-old cat named Alfie is back home and purring loudly after a four-year disappearance ended in one of the most unexpected reunion stories that anyone in Portsmouth could have imagined. Alfie had gone missing in 2022, shortly after his owner Mandy Davis moved house, slipping out through a small gap in a window and vanishing into the neighborhood before she could find him. Then, a few weeks ago, a homeowner on a nearby street heard unusual sounds coming from a narrow 10-centimeter gap between two brick structures at the side of her house, called for help, and what rescuers found inside that tight space, wedged nearly a meter and a half in and completely unable to free himself, was one very patient and very determined cat. It had taken a full team to get him there, and it would take one to get him out.

The RSPCA, Hampshire Fire and Rescue, and a local vet all responded to the scene, and after hours of careful attempts to reach Alfie without causing injury, he was sedated to give rescuers the brief window they needed, emerging somehow completely unharmed after the whole ordeal. The real shock arrived moments later when a routine microchip scan revealed that the cat had been reported missing since 2022, allowing rescuers to trace and contact his owner. Mandy Davis said she honestly never expected to hear his name again, and that receiving the call left her completely stunned, especially when she learned he had been found just two streets from home the entire time. After a vet visit for matted fur and a full check, Alfie was given a clean bill of health and returned to his family, where RSPCA staff say he has wasted absolutely no time making up for four very long lost years.
