Scotland Meets Children’s Mental Health Target for the First Time

Scotland has achieved a major milestone in children’s mental health care, meeting its referral target for the first time since it was introduced over a decade ago. New data shows that over 90% of young people referred to Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) started treatment within 18 weeks. This progress highlights the dedication of healthcare teams working to support children and families across the country. Half of those referred began treatment within just four weeks, showing an encouraging improvement in access to care.

To build on this success, new initiatives are expanding pathways for children with neurodivergent conditions, ensuring tailored support for a wider range of needs. Experts and charities applaud this achievement, emphasizing its impact on children’s well-being and future opportunities. With continued investment, Scotland is on track to further strengthen mental health services and provide even greater support for young people.
