Stephen Fry Honored with Knighthood for Advocacy and Charity Work

Stephen Fry, the beloved comedian, actor, and presenter, has been knighted in the New Year Honors for his extensive advocacy work in mental health, environmental conservation, and charity. Fry, 67, expressed his delight at the unexpected recognition, reflecting on his personal journey and dedication to raising awareness about mental health issues, an area close to his heart as president of the charity Mind since 2011.

Fry also serves as Vice-President of Fauna and Flora International and supports the Terence Higgins Trust in its efforts to aid those living with HIV and AIDS. Calling the award “startling and enchanting,” Fry emphasized the importance of breaking stigmas surrounding mental illness and praised the growing societal focus on this critical issue.

The honors list also celebrated other notable figures, including actress Carmen Munroe, who received a damehood for her contributions to drama, and Myleene Klass, made an MBE for her work in women’s health and miscarriage awareness. Football legends Gareth Southgate and Gerald Davies were also knighted, joining a diverse roster of individuals recognized for their exceptional contributions to society.
