Strangers Come to the Rescue, Carry 79-Year-Old Hiker to Safety After Injury

When 79-year-old Ursula Bannister broke her ankle while hiking to the spot where she scattered her mother’s ashes, she faced a five-hour wait for help. Fortunately, U.S. Air Force Airman Troy May and his friend Layton Allen came to her aid, carrying her down the steep 1.6-mile trail in a heroic three-hour effort. Ursula, an experienced hiker from Washington, was deeply grateful for the strangers’ kindness, which helped her avoid further pain during the long wait for emergency crews.
