This EU Leader Just Took a Stand That Gamers Have Been Waiting For

A grassroots movement that began with frustrated gamers has just received support from one of the most powerful political figures in Europe. Nicolae Ștefănuță, a Vice President of the European Parliament, publicly signed the Stop Killing Games petition and declared his commitment to helping the cause move forward. His simple but powerful statement captured what millions of gamers have been feeling: “A game, once sold, belongs to the customer, not the company.”

The Stop Killing Games initiative fights against the practice of companies shutting down games that customers have already purchased, leaving them with nothing to show for their money. The movement has already cleared the one million signature threshold required to become an official Citizens’ Initiative, putting it on track to potentially become European law. Ștefănuță’s support comes at a crucial time, as the gaming industry has been pushing back against the proposal through lobbying groups. His backing could prove essential when the initiative reaches the Parliament floor, where his influence and voice will help ensure that actual gamers’ concerns are heard loud and clear.
