UK Announces New Plan to Protect Bees

The UK has announced a first-of-its-kind plan to cut pesticide use on arable farms by 10% by 2030. The goal is to protect pollinators like bees and reduce environmental harm. The plan includes penalties for irresponsible pesticide use and promotes eco-friendly alternatives like pest-attracting plants and predatory insects.

A new monitoring system will track not just how much pesticide is used, but how toxic it is. While campaigners welcomed the move, some criticized the plan for not addressing pesticide use in urban parks and green spaces. Farmers support the initiative and are asking for help in creating habitats for helpful insects.

The plan follows a recent ban on bee-killing pesticides in England and signals a broader shift toward more sustainable farming.
