NBA’s Mikal Bridges Brings Big Dreams to the Classroom

Brooklyn Nets’ Mikal Bridges, known for his moves on the court, recently fulfilled a lifelong dream of teaching second graders. Inspired by his own second-grade teacher, Ms. Porter, Bridges has always wanted to help kids and decided to take on the role of “Mr. Bridges” for a day at PS 134 in Brooklyn.

Despite coming off a late-night game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Bridges brought his energy to gym class, music lessons, and even the math classroom. From playing basketball with fourth graders to solving riddles at lunch, Bridges found joy in connecting with the students. The kids marveled at his height, peppered him with questions, and enjoyed his hands-on teaching style.

For Bridges, meeting the students was just as fulfilling as it was for them. Reflecting on the pivotal role of teachers, he expressed hopes of becoming a teacher or principal after his NBA career. His visit highlighted the lasting impact educators have and brought smiles to the faces of future basketball fans and learners alike.
